Twenty Seven Years Apart: Could Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor mesmerize the screens one more time?
Umesh Shukla has donned the directorial hat for his next venture, and has to deal with the mammoth task of successfully capturing the essence of a Gujarati play, called ‘102 Not Out’. However, he must be breathing a sigh of relief due to the lead actors that the film bagged for itself!
The film comprises of Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor as the lead actors. Two of the biggest and most prominent names of the Hindi film industry will come together and collaborate, in order to bring the play to the big screen. ‘102 Not Out’ would mark their first collaboration in at least twenty seven years.
When it comes to the story, the movie itself is quite straightforward yet has its roots firmly set in comedy. Amitabh Bachchan’s character is on a quest to be declared officially as the oldest man in the world, the competition for him being an old Chinese man. He is backed by Rishi Kapoor’s character, who is the seventy-five-year-old son of Amitabh’s character.
In a recent press conference for the promotion of the film, Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor were delighted to share anecdotes from their times together in ‘Coolie’, ’Amar Akbar Anthony’ and how and where Rishi met Amitabh for the first time. Amitabh also shares the unique talent that Manmohan Desai was and the casual approach of Hrishikesh Mukherjee when it comes to the costumes of the actor.
Rishi Kapoor also talked about the integrity of his co-star, when the latter refused to succumb to the pain on being injured at the sets of ‘Coolie’. Evidently, the camaraderie between the two remains stronger than ever.
102 Not Out hits theatres on the 4th of May, 2018. It would be interesting to see how the chemistry between Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor has changed since their days on the sets of ‘Ajooba’, which released in 1991.
