Written and directed by Majid Majidi himself, the original score of the film is composed by Oscar-winning A. R. Rahman.
The film portrays the life of two siblings who get into the wrong side of the law. Majidi’s ‘Beyond The Clouds is a melodrama positioned in Mumbai’s poverty-stricken underclass, without appearing cliché.

Gautam Ghose, G. V. Sharada and Tannishtha Chatterjee leave behind an impactful performance, yet an unsubtle Mumbai melodrama, and so do the child actors.

Before its release in India, the film was premiered at BFI London Film Festival.

When we questioned the director about how did he decide to make an India based film, he replied with the help of his translator. He stated, “I always wanted to make films that were based around the world. When I thought of a country, in particular, I had my answers clear. It was India. There are many things in common about India and Iran; it’s complexity and diversity. I wanted to base the story on innocence with layers of other social implications. I came to Mumbai and did my research and that is how the movie happened.”

Majidi’s narrative is powerful and equipped to intensify the faithful energy of the quiet, spartan and the soulful sundry of a melodrama. The Oscar-nominated auteur of ‘Children of Heaven’ offers hope and reconciliation through his narrative.
