Bioscopewala is derived from Rabindranath Tagore’s Bengali short story ‘Kabuliwala’ written in 1892. The film extends the story from where Tagore’s Kabuliwala ends. In this extrapolation, Rehman Khan (Danny Denzongpa) the Kabuliwala shows films, with his bioscope, to children in Kolkata and as he misses his daughter in Kabul ravaged by civil war. He becomes friends with a five-year-old girl Minnie from an upper middle-class family as she reminds him of his daughter who lives in Kabul. Minnie (Geetanjali Thapa) a grown woman now, in a dramatic turn of events, after her father’s death in an accident, her memories of the Bioscopewala are revived and she seeks to find Rehmat Khan. The journey takes her to Afghanistan to learn about Rehmat Khan’s daughter. The film is an emotional connect of love and emotion.
