This unwanted attention in the Bollywood industry often invades the privacy of the lives of celebrities and creates a chaotic atmosphere. This atmosphere then provides a rampant breeding ground for conspiracy theories, which can even pervade a situation such as death.

Divya Bharti was one of the biggest stars in Bollywood during its 90s era. She was married to Sajid Nadiadwala, and the latter has been under suspicion for her death. Divya fell to her death, from her apartment which was on the fifth floor of her apartment building. Police investigated but could not find any incriminating evidence, and ruled it to be a case of suicide.
Guru Dutt died in 1964, from a case of overdose and alcoholism. His relationship with his wife, Geeta was strained and caused him great turmoil, leading him to contemplate about death. Although sources close to Dutt claimed that his death was a total accident, most believe that it was a clear case of suicide.
Jiah Khan had made a break into Bollywood through ‘Nishabhd’, a movie by Ram Gopal Verma. She was 25 years old at the time of her death. Found hanging from her apartment’s ceiling in 2013, her mother believed that her boyfriend at the time, Sooraj Panchauli was the one responsible for her death. Jiah’s diary pages revealed that the couple was not in the best of states at the time either.
Manmohan Desai had carved a niche for himself in Bollywood, with hits such as Amar Akbar Anthony and Parvarish. He was known to suffer from chronic back pain and was also subjected to ridicule by critics because his films, in the latter phase of his career, did not do well. This could have been a reason for his mysterious death, as he fell from his residence which was in Grant Road, an area of Mumbai. Some believe that he lost his balance due to his back issues.
Meena Kumari’s death was a true tragedy and was one of the reasons for her name as the Tragedy Queen. Her problems with alcohol caused a severe liver cirrhosis, and she died at the age of 40; without ever truly knowing how her movies had created a huge fan following.
Nafisa Joseph started her career as a video jockey, before trying her hand in the acting business in Bollywood. Just as she was about to hit stardom, her luck ran out. She hung herself when she was just 26 years old. Police believed that her row with Gautam Khanduja, a businessman and her soon-to-be husband, had led her to her death.
Parveen Babi’s sad story shows how a life of glamour can feel just as empty if one does not find true happiness in their work. Although she was garnering attention for her acting prowess, her life was a rather lonely one. In 2005, she was found dead in her apartment by the police, who had to engage in a break-in. Speculations about her death include a natural death, and of course, suicide.
Priya Rajvansh’s case is the only one on this list to have ever been solved. She was an actress whose growing popularity had increased her net worth immensely. She starred in various movies in the 1970s, such as ‘Hanste Zakhm’. Her death in 2000 was initially believed to be a case of suicide. Investigations later revealed that it was a murder. Her husband’s children, along with a couple of others, were involved for property purposes.
Silk Smitha, whose real name was Vijayalakshmi Vadlapati, had set the Tamil stages on fire with her sex appeal and eroticism. However, her fame made its mark on her life in an adverse manner. Her finances started crumbling, along with her relationships. Alcoholism followed thereafter, leading the actress to commit suicide. A severe case of depression has not been ruled out as a cause of death.
Viveka Babajee was setting ramps alight with her sheer talent in modelling. However, that talent met a premature end as she was found to have hung herself in her flat. Police found a diary which just stated the two words “I kill”. Her boyfriend at the time was under suspicion for leading her to her death, as the couple was in an unstable relationship.
