Sudhir Mishra’s latest directorial feature film ‘Daas Dev‘ starring Richa Chadha, Aditi Rao Hydari and Rahul Bhat will hit the screens on April 27, 2018.
Daas Dev is an adaptation of the Bengali novel by Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay, Devdas. Sudhir’s film is the fifth Hindi adaptation based on this novel. The film is not only a tale of lost love, but also a political drama. It is an accession to greed, power and all the conflicts that follow.
Watch the Press Conference of Daas Dev:
The last film that was based on the same novel was titled ‘Dev D’. It was directed by eminent filmmaker Anurag Kashyap. Interestingly, Kashyap plays an important cameo in Sudhir’s Daas Dev.
The film has an intriguing haul on the popular Devdas story. It has caught the attention of a number of cine-enthusiasts.
When questioned why the film was titled in reverse, Sudhir shared, “The entire story of our version of Devdas is based on power. It portrays how addictive power can get. Each and every character in the story is addicted to power. Our lead protagonist Dev is addicted to alcohol as well. So unlike the novel and the other versions, our Dev is first shown as an alcohol addict and how he comes out of it. He then dethrones the corrupt and gets the power. It’s a story in reverse, hence the reversed title.”
The Press Conference was attended by Sudhir, Richa Chadha, Rahul Bhat, Saurabh Shukla, and one of the producers.
The film was earlier scheduled to release on April 20. The release date was postponed as the producers took a strategic call to avoid a clash with films like ‘Omerta’, ‘Beyond the Clouds’, ‘Nanu Ki Jaanu’ and ‘High Jack’. However, ‘Daas Dev‘ will now stand along with Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ at the theatres.
