Internationally acclaimed feature film III SMOKING BARRELS, which is set in North East India, was recently screened in Thailand.
This special screening was organized by the Consulate of India, Chiang Mai. Mr. Shirish Jain – Consul of India, Chiang Mai, along with the Consulate Generals/Consuls from countries like Japan, China, USA, Germany, France, Austria & Portugal attended the screening. Mr. Kabir Khan, director of films like Bajrangi Bhaijan & Ek Tha Tiger was one of the chief guests along with other dignitaries like Vice-Chairman & MD of HSMM Group, Laos – Soukhtavy Chowdhury, actress & film-maker Rajni Basumatary as well as local cine-goers from Thailand. The director of the film Sanjib Dey and Producer Amit Malpani who hails from Golaghat were both present there to grace the occasion.
After watching the film there, Mr. Ren Yisheng – Consul General of Republic of China said, “In my view, this film has enabled viewers to have a better understanding of people’s life and social issues of North East India”.
While Mr. Nikolaus Prachensky – Honorary Consul of Austria said, “This film came as a big surprise, since I have so far only watched the typical Bollywood blockbusters”. Further review came from Mr. Nuno Caldera D Silva – Honorary Consul of Portugal. He added, “III Smoking Barrels was for me an immersion into an unknown reality. It is a story about love for one’s country, region and people shown through three daily dramas that are part of the living of peoples in North East India. Besides this emotional and very personal way of telling the story of the challenges in the region, the Director did it with a great sensibility and sense of social responsibility. ”
The screening of III Smoking Barrels in Chiang Mai, held to enhance cultural exchange between India and Thailand was a stupendous success. Specially because it was a great initiative to connect the people of South East Asia and North East India through this impactful film.
