Aa Karaala Ratri
Directed by Dayal Padmanabhan, this drama/thriller movie stars Rangayana Raghu, Jayaram Karthik and Veena Sundar in the lead roles. The film was released on 13th of July, 2018 and depicts a situation in which lust and greed overpower household members, leading to the destruction of the family. The film has been praised by critics for its minimalist approach in direction, as well as the raw portrayal of life in a village.

Aranyakanda
Archana Kottige, Gururaj Shetty and Amar appear in this film, directed by Raghunandan S. The adventure drama film was released on 22nd June, 2018. The first is a love story, and the other is a horror story involving a revengeful and spiteful spirit, whose existence intertwines with that of the new couple. The performances of the cast has been praised by the critics, with criticism directed towards the scripting and dialogues.

Hyper
Ganesh Vinayak directs this drama film, starring the likes of Shobhraj, Sheila and Arjun Aarya. ‘Hyper’ blends the idea of environmental protection and awareness into a romance film, with the introduction of violence as well. The film was released on the 29th of June, 2018, to a mixed response. Critics loved the performances of the cast. However, their reactions to the story were less than satisfactory.

Kannadakkagi Ondannu Otti
Released on 6th July, 2018, this comedy drama is directed by Kushal and comprises a cast of Chikkanna, Samyukta Hornad, Krishi Thapanda and Rangayana Raghu. Two friends meet in the most unexpected of situations, and decide to go on a road trip. They tell each other their own tales about life so far. The critics of the film praised its ending and climax, while criticising the cinematography and dialogues.

Kulfi
Another horror flick, this one is directed by Manju Hassan and stars Harshita Gowda and Siloni. The film talks about how four friends are entangled in a paranormal estate scenario with a mysterious woman. Released on 29th June, 2018, the film opened to positive reviews from critics, praising the narrative and emotional build-up to a base horror story. The performance of the entire cast was applauded as well.

Parasanga
This movie borrows its title from a Kannada cult hit, called ‘Parasangada Gendethimma’. Released on 6th July, 2018, the movie is directed by K.M. Raghu. The cast includes the likes of Mithra, Manoj Puttur and Aksatha Srinivas. The story of the film involves a village tale in which the two protagonists decide to own a hotel. The trials and tribulations that they face during its establishment makes up for the majority of the storyline. Critics have commended the cast’s performance, but were left disappointed with the loose scripting of the film.

Star 121 Hash
This suspense thriller was released on 29th June, 2018. Dosti V. Anand directed the film, with Vinay Chandar and Vidya in the lead roles. The story brings in the idea of young adults who are out enjoying themselves. However, some reckless driving leads them to hit a bystander, resulting in death. Soon, they realize that they are being hunted down for their antics. The editing and screenplay was heavily criticised by the critics, but the set pieces were applauded.

Trunk
Released on 13th July, 2018 and directed by Rishika Sharma, ‘Trunk’ is a horror movie with a twist. The film stars Vaishali Deepak, Nihaal and Aruna Balaraj in the lead roles. The film is based around a true story which happened to a family settled in North Karnataka. The film has been praised by critics for the balancing between the belief of spirits and its out of the box horror moments.
