The film is helmed by National Award-winning director Ravi Jadhav. ‘Nude’ offers a meditation upon the creation of art that offers a few surprises.
The Marathi film ‘Nude’ offers a strong title but is easy on the eye. It portrays the lives of women who pose as nude models for artists. ‘Nude’ has an extraordinarily eclectic narrative. It ranges from the ordinary below middle-class family dynamics to the sensual taboo-inflicted art house centres. Starring Kalyanee Mulay, Chhaya Kadam and Madan Deodhar, the film illustrates why nude artists in India work at the risk of their secret life being revealed.
In the film, a mother’s tries to constantly hide the truth of her profession from her son, while funding for his education. Both the mother-son duo flee from their village to Mumbai. Upon reaching Mumbai, the mother has to make both the ends meet to account for a living. It is then that she stumbles upon Sir JJ School of Art, where she encounters models who pose nude for artists.

As the trailer suggests, the film seems to be a perfect amalgamation of content and execution. From a scene in the trailer, we can also watch veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah illustrating how an artist controls the body and transcends it beyond to depict the soul in paintings. The film explores a rigid dichotomy between social stigma and liberated art.
The film after much controversy is slated for a release on 27th April 2018 without any cuts. The title and plot of the film stirred controversies with the CBFC earlier, but the film has now cleared with an A certificate.
