American skeptic Jamie, after receiving a cryptic message, travels to the Indian Himalayas to pick up on the trail of his missing girlfriend. His quest to find Sophie leads him to an ashram where an evocative cast of characters, including Indian American actor Kal Penn and Hera Hilmar (“The Ottoman Lieutenant”), awaits. There, he discovers a secretive community led by a guru with strange powers who may or may not be involved in her disappearance. Here he finds an evocative cast of characters. As Jamie travels deeper down the rabbit hole, he quickly realizes he may have uncovered more than he bargained for, and that this mysterious mountain may contain the secrets of reincarnation – and a portal to another dimension.

The Ashram is an English-language spiritual fantasy thriller set in the mystical world of Himalayan yogis. It was extensively shot in Manali, Himachal Pradesh, India.

Second-time feature filmmaker and former IM Global executive Ben Rekhi (Waterborne). Rekhi co-wrote the script of ‘ The Ashram’ with Binky Mendez.

The Ashram, starring Sam Keeley (The Cured), Oscar winner Melissa Leo (The Fighter), Kal Penn (Harold and Kumar franchise), Hera Hilmar (Da Vinci’s Demons) and up-and-coming Indian actress Radhika Apte (Badlapur).

Geneet Monga’s Sikhya Entertainment is producing The Ashram with Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Insidious) as executive producer, and Mali Elfman (Before I Wake) as co-producer. Geneet Monga producing credits include ‘The Lunchbox’ and ‘Gangs Of Wasseypur’, both are considered pioneers of recent non-Bollywood indies to break out of India.

The movie is about subtle fantasy atmosphere and it blends skepticism with belief. It portrays that miracles happen all the time, but belief makes one see them.
