It’s not always that good things happen to you without you having to try for it. But bad decisions are a thing too. And so are regrets. There have been actors who rejected a role completely when the role tried to pick them.
The entire film could have been another story if the first choices for these movies didn’t say ‘no’.

Here are 10 Bollywood celebrities that said “thanks, but no thanks”
to these iconic movies that, unfortunately, became classics over time.

Have a look!

Bhool Bhulaiyya: Aishwarya Rai turned down the role of Avni Chaturvedi in Bhool Bhulaiyya.
Role was played by Vidya Balan

Can you imagine our glamorous Aish playing the role of Manjulika in Priyadarshan’s Bhool Bhulaiyya? Whether or not, we have to say that Vidya did an incredible job and we can’t imagine anybody else as Manjulika. The film received universal critical acclaim and was also a huge commercial success.

Dil Chahta Hai: Hrithik Roshan turned down the role of Akash in Dil Chahta Hai
Role was played by Aamir Khan
Can you believe that the role of Akash was originally written for Hrithik Roshan? After a letdown, the role was grabbed by Aamir Khan and I’m sure Hrithik badly badly regrets that. Dil Chahta Hai directed by the then debutant director, Farhan Akhtar, won National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi in 2001. Bad call!

Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge: Saif Ali Khan turned down the role of Raj in Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge.
Role was played by Shah Rukh Khan
The legendary Raj and Simran story would have been completely different if Saif said a ‘yes’. The iconic film won 10 Filmfare Awards, the most for a single film at that time, and is also a National Award-winning film. We cannot imagine DDLJ without SRK, to be honest. Let’s get over it now.

Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram-Leela: Kareena Kapoor Khan turned down the role of Leela in Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram-Leela.
Role was played by Deepika Padukone
The romantic crime drama film co-written, co-produced, co-edited and directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, is a remake of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet with an Indian twist. The sizzling chemistry between Ram and Leela is outstanding and we’re not quite sure if it would have been the same with Kareena in it.

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam: Kareena Kapoor Khan turned down the role of Nandini from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.
Role was played by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam is still considered one of the finest works of the director. Aishwarya’s career span took a leap too after the release of the movie. The film was premiered in the Indian Panorama section at the 1999 International Film Festival of India. Aish must’ve thanked her stars a thousand times, for sure!

Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.: Shah Rukha Khan turned down the role of Munna in Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.
Role was played by Sanjay Dutt.
Rajkumar Hirani’s Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. gave birth to a legendary character and even went on to become a franchise. The shocking this is that Shah Rukh Khan, and not Sanjay Dutt, was the first choice for the film. That’s unbelievable and we love Sanjay for every bit of the movie. We wonder how the movie would have been with SRK in it.

Swades: Hrithik Roshan turned down the role of Mohan Bhargav in Swades.
Role was played by Shah Rukh Khan
Hrithik has a history of bad choices but this time we’re surely not complaining. Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, the film received extensive critical acclaim and ended up becoming a cult classic. Maybe the role of a NASA scientist who comes back to India was unconvincing to Hrithik, then. But good job SRK!

The Dirty Picture: Kangana Ranaut turned down the role of Reshma in The Dirty Picture.
Role was played by Vidya Balan
Made a mistake Kangana, yes? The Indian biographical musical drama film was inspired by the life of Silk Smitha, a South Indian actress noted for her bold roles and erotic films. Directed by Milan Luthria and co-produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor, the film received three National Film Awards and three Filmfare Awards. Vidya’s phenomenal performance as Silk/Reshma won several accolades and was critically approved.

Veer-Zara: Kajol turned down the role of Zara in Veer-Zara.
Role was played by Preity Zita
We missed the opportunity to see the cast of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai together again. The Indian romantic drama film directed by Yash Chopra portrayed a sensitive front to the Indo-Pak relations and was highly praised by critics and masses worldwide. Veer Zara is considered one of the best romantic films in the history of Bollywood films and with this, we’re quite in a fix if we wanted Kajol instead of Preity. Maybe not!

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani: Katrina turned down the role of Naina in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
Role was played by Deepika Padukone

Ah, that hurts! A couple of ‘no’s’ was a huge boost to Deepika’s career and one of them has to be Katrina’s refusal to do YJHD. The Indian romantic drama film, directed by Ayan Mukerji, received the highest number of nominations in the  59th Filmfare Awards. We think she might have regretted her decision later.
