Village Rockstar, a movie by Flying River Films is about a 10-year-old girl Dhunu, who in the brunt of poverty, dreams of owning a guitar.
Dhanu, who resides in a small village in northeast India constantly battles to find her ways to her dream of forming a rock band and is shown confronting hostile natural calamities The movie beautifully depicts and captures the life of people in Assam. It is a story of hope and the courage of making a wish.
It is a very positive film, and everyone has a dream, desire and longing and since the film is talking about all these elements, and so that’s the reason why people have connected with the film.

Village Rockstar opened in Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), then San Sebastian Film Festival, Mumbai Film Festival, Cork Film Festival, Leiden Film Festival, Olympia Film Festival, International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), SIFFCY (Smile International Film Festival for Children and Youth), Göteborg Film Festival, Cairo International Film Festival and it won the Best Feature Film on the 65th National Award which was announced recently. The film was also screened at Indonesia Premier, IFFI (International Film Festival of India), MAMI and was also part of the 1st Guwahati International Film Festival (GIFF), which is in fact the home state of the filmmaker.
The talented filmmaker Rima Das is next making a teenage love-story next, which again will be in Assamese. She is yet to decide on the title of the film.
